GUIDING LIGHT {LIZZIE IS DIAGNOSED WITH LEUKEMIA} (TV)

Summary

One in this long-running daytime serial about the residents of the midwestern town of Springfield. In this episode, Rick informs Phillip and Beth that their daughter Lizzie is suffering from pediatric leukemia. They worry about the effects of the aggressive treatment needed and steel themselves to tell Lizzie the bad news. Lizzie accepts the diagnosis calmly, vowing to do whatever is needed to recover. Susan is devastated by the news, and Alan and Edmund offer sympathy and help. Meanwhile, Michelle is awaiting the jury's verdict in her trial for Ben's murder. The district attorney offers a plea bargain, but Michelle refuses to admit to any guilt. As the program ends, the jury returns with a verdict. Commercials deleted.

(The title of this series was "The Guiding Light" on radio from 1937 to 1956 and on television from 1952 to 1977; in 1977 the title was changed to "Guiding Light.")
