CAGNEY & LACEY {CAGNEY AND LACEY}: THE CLINIC {THE GLASER FOUNDATION FIRST AMENDMENT COLLECTION} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas about the professional and personal lives of policewomen Chris Cagney and Mary Beth Lacey. In this episode, Cagney and Lacey are asked to escort a woman, Mrs. Herrera, into a clinic that has been harassed by anti-abortion protesters. At the station, Lieutenant Samuels's son David stops by with the surprise announcement that he been married -- to a woman who is not Jewish and who is older than he. Samuels expresses shock and also nags David about his job at a restaurant, of which the young man's father does not approve. Cagney and Lacey take Mrs. Herrera to the clinic and face a barrage of protesters. In the locker room at work, Cagney and Lacey have a heated discussion about abortion. At home, Lacey sees a news report that the clinic they visited was bombed. Cagney and Lacey investigate the crime, but when a vagrant who was injured in the bombing dies they are left with no witness. At home, Lacey reveals to her husband the reason for her fervor on the issue of abortion; she was faced with pregnancy at nineteen and almost had a back-alley abortion. Instead, she used her college money to have the operation in Puerto Rico. Samuels talks to Lacey about her dreams for her children. Later he shows up at his son's house with flowers, wishing him and his new wife well. After obtaining a member list from the organization that was picketing the clinic, Cagney and Lacey follow a lead on Emily Johnson, a member with a history of violent protest. At Johnson's apartment, the suspect answers their questions before suddenly pulling a bomb trigger out of nowhere. Commercials deleted.
