LOST IN SPACE: THE TIME MERCHANT (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction programs about the Robinsons, a family of space colonists from Earth who have become hopelessly "lost in space." In this episode, Will is trying to trap some cosmic particles when he accidentally summons Chronos, the Time Merchant. Chronos is furious at having been taken away from his time factory -- so he kidnaps Will as payment for his trouble. Smith relays the news about Will to Dr. Robinson, and they follow Chronos in hope of effecting a rescue. Unfortunately, Smith's greed gets the better of him. Before they can reclaim Will, Smith sneaks into a transport that carries him back to Earth and back in time, to the day of the Robinsons' initial launch into space. Chronos is enraged by Smith's dishonesty and vows to take revenge. Dr. Robinson assumes that, if Smith isn't on the Jupiter 2 when it takes off, his extra weight won't throw the spaceship off course, and the original mission to Alpha Centauri will be a success. Chronos reveals that the Jupiter 2 will collide with an uncharted asteroid if it follows its original course, however. Dr. Robinson wonders whether they can get a message to ask Smith to get onto the spaceship, thus subverting the collision. He makes a deal with Chronos, who sends the Robot back to Earth to contact Dr. Smith. With a bit of trouble, Smith and the Robot make it onto the spaceship just in time. Dr. Robinson and Will then coerce Chronos into bringing the Robot and Dr. Smith back to the present. When he does, the process overloads the time-factory machinery. As all around them blows up and bursts into flames, Dr. Robinson, Will, and Dr. Smith must try to escape. This episode includes clips from the program's 1964 pilot. Commercials deleted.
