LOST IN SPACE: THE PROMISED PLANET (TV)
Summary
One in this series of science fiction programs about the Robinsons, a family of space colonists from Earth who have become hopelessly "lost in space." In this episode, everyone rejoices when the Robot announces that they have a lock on the Alpha Centauri star system. The Robinsons and crew approach the system and communicate with a man named Bartholomew, who says he is part of an American colony on the planet Delta. Bartholomew brings the Jupiter 2 in for landing. When the Robinsons arrive, he offers the youngest arrivals, Will and Penny, separate quarters from everyone else. In reality, Will and Penny are brought to processing and adjustment stations that flash bright colors and play disco-type music, where "youngers" are reprogrammed to be groovy and reject the authority of "olders." When Will shows resistance to readjustment, a younger named Edgar goes to work on him, giving him some memory cones; he says these "give you instant memory and make you learn fast." Meanwhile, the rest of the family members begin to suspect that something strange is going on, especially when their requests to see Will and Penny are denied. Dr. Smith decides to go hunting for someone in authority. While he is gone, the Robinsons are doused with memory-washing fumes, which delete Penny, Will, and Dr. Smith from their minds. Meanwhile, Dr. Smith stumbles into an adjustment station, where he discovers the truth: Bartholomew is an alien. Back in Edgar's pad, Will continues to resist his programming. He grabs Penny, and the two hunt down their family -- only to discover that no one remembers them. Will tries to explain the situation. When he is unsuccessful, he gives Dr. Robinson the memory cones from Edgar, and the Robinsons take off in the Jupiter 2. Once in space, Dr. Robinson burns one of Will's cones, which restores everyone's memory. The ship quickly turns around to transport its occupants back to Delta to rescue Will, Penny, and Dr. Smith. Commercials deleted.
