DAVID FROST SHOW, THE {JOHN LENNON; YOKO ONO} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of talk/variety shows hosted by David Frost. The program opens as Frost introduces his guests, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. He explains that they are to have a musical treat and introduces David Peel and the Lower East Side, who play a song dedicated to the pair. Lennon and Ono play with the band, and Frost interviews Ono. They discuss her many artistic inventions, the meaning behind "Film #4 as a protest to Vietnam," and her increasing political involvement. Lennon and Ono, sitting on the edge of the stage, next perform "Attica State" along with members of the Lower East Side. After they play, Frost invites members of the audience to question the two about the song. A discussion about the need for a fair penal system and the efficacy of freeing prisoners follows. Next, the group sings Ono's song "Oh Sisters, Oh Sisters."

Ono returns to the stage with Frost, where a heated but civil argument about the terms of the couple's participation on the show ensues. They then discuss her need to point out acts of discrimination against women, her realization that the public always listens to famous people, and her belief that communication is a key to peace. Next, Frost and Ono invite Chief Lion of the Onondaga tribe to the stage, where they discuss a case in which the New York State Department of Transportation planned to expand a highway that ran through tribal land. A short film depicting Lennon and Ono in the Onondaga protest is shown. Lennon then plays "John Sinclair" with Ono and members of the Lower East Side, and he talks about their participation in the protest to release John Sinclair, who was jailed for ten years for possession of two marijuana joints. Ono and Frost talk again about her fight for peace. The program closes with a performance of the song "Proud To Be a New York Hippie" by David Peel and the Lower East Side. Commercials deleted.
