FREAKS AND GEEKS: SMOOCHING AND MOOCHING (TV)

Summary

One in this series about two distinct groups of high schoolers in 1980 Michigan -- the Freaks, hoodish outcasts-by-choice who love heavy metal, cars, and defying authority; and the Geeks, physically and socially underdeveloped kids who revel in science fiction and impersonations of their comedy idols. In this episode, Mr. Andopolis sells Nick's drum kit and refuses to give Nick any money from the sale, so Nick walks out. He ends up at the Weir house looking for a place to crash, and Lindsay is shocked when her father invites Nick to stay. Meanwhile, Cindy Sanders confesses her "like" for Sam and gets Sam to invite her to Mona's make-out party. Bill is worried that Sam will start dating Cindy and neglect his friends, but Neal sees this relationship as an opportunity to "get in" with the cult of the cool and make some time with Cindy's friend, Vicki. Lindsay is jealous of her father's acceptance of Nick, particularly when he gives Nick a part-time job to help pay for drum lessons, but after Mr. Andopolis comes to take Nick home she begins to realize how much her parents really do love her. Neal is excited when the kids play "Spin the Bottle" at Mona's party because he has practiced long and hard on his bottle-spinning technique for just such an occasion. No matter how hard he tries, however, the bottle always ends up pointing at Bill. Sam and Cindy find some time alone to share a kiss, and Sam is surprised by Cindy's enthusiasm. Commercials deleted.
