COLGATE THEATRE: THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH {UNSOLD PILOT} (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series consisting primarily of pilots for projected series that did not make it to the network's permanent schedule. This program, hosted and narrated by Orson Welles, concerns Dr. Humphrey Baxter and his scientific discovery of an elixir that promises to grant eternal youth. He leaves for Vienna for three years to perfect his formula shortly after falling in love with glamorous actress Caroline Coates. When he returns, he learns from friends that she has been seeing tennis champion Alan Brody, and before long she and Brody marry. The newlyweds visit Baxter and ask if they may partake of his anti-aging formula, and he decides to use it to retaliate against Caroline's unfaithfulness. He tells them that he only has enough potion left for one dose, adding that physical problems could develop if they split it between them. Caroline and Brody's greed and vanity cause them to fall right into Baxter's evil plan. Commercials deleted.

("Colgate Theatre" also is the title of a live dramatic anthology series with a Broadway theater theme that ran on NBC from 1949-1950.)
