WEST WING, THE: TAKE THIS SABBATH DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about the day-to-day running of the White House and the lives of its staff. In this episode a federal prisoner's appeal for a stay of execution is denied. President Bartlet has forty-eight hours in which to grapple with the decision of whether to commute the sentence of the prisoner, Simon Cruz, under the scrutiny of an American public overwhelming in favor of capital punishment. Cruz's public defender, Bobby Zane, turns out to be a high-school acquaintance of Sam, and he wants to use Sam's influence with Bartlet to help his client. Bartlet receives advice and counsel from varied friends and staff members, most of whom are overwhelmingly against capital punishment and in favor of the pardon. Josh meets with Joey Lucas, a deaf campaign manager who demands to know why her Congressional candidate has been underfunded by the Democratic Party. Lucas is bluntly told that the Bartlet administration doesn't like her candidate. At the end of the day, the president must make his decision. Commercials deleted.
