SEX AND THE CITY: OLD DOGS, NEW DICKS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Carrie Bradshaw, a single Manhattanite who writes a popular sex-advice column for a newspaper while dishing out dating advice and dirt with her three closest friends. In this episode, Carrie wonders about the phenomenon of women who resort to changing their expectations when they are unable to change their mate. Carrie is frustrated with the way in which her longtime boyfriend, Mr. Big, is always checking out women on the streets of New York. She is unable to confront him on the matter since she is not entirely convinced that she isn't expecting too much from Mr. Big (who, after all, is of the gender that Samantha describes as "totally unchangeable ... it's in their genetic code"). Miranda is also worried about asking her man to change; in this case, it's his schedule that's in question. As a late-shift bartender, he is unable even to begin to think about a romantic life until Miranda is leaving for work. Charlotte is shocked when she discovers that her new boyfriend is uncircumcised, but before she can think about dumping him, he tells her that he has picked up on her discomfort and is actually going to go through with a late-in-life bris. When Carrie hears this news, she begins to rethink her stance. "Maybe men can change," she says to herself. When she finally attempts to talk to Mr. Big about his behavior, however, she crumbles and tells him that she dislikes the smell of his cigar. Samantha receives an entirely different lesson in how men change when she comes face to face with an ex-boyfriend who has become a fixture on the drag-queen scene.
