STUDIO ONE: JUNE MOON (TV)
Summary
One in this live dramatic anthology series. This dramatic comedy tells the tale of Frederick Stevens, a young and naive lyricist who travels to New York in 1929 to make a name for himself by teaming up with the once popular tunesmith Paul Sears. On the train to the city he meets Edna Baker, a pretty but sensible girl. The two come up with the idea for a love song, "June Moon," and begin courting once they settle in the city. Sears welcomes Fred, hoping the younger man will boost his failing career, and introduces him to his cynical but wise pianist, Maxie Schwartz. Fred also meets Sears' bitter and dissatisfied wife, Lucille, and her glamorous, gold-digging sister, Eileen. Also in evidence is songwriter Benny Lewis, who struggles with his own hackneyed, awkward work. When Eileen is dumped once too often by the music publisher Mr. Hart, she cozies up to Fred and convinces him to spend all his money entertaining and clothing her, enticing him away from the simple Edna. Meanwhile, Fred introduces "June Moon" to Hart, who buys it. Everyone is pleased when the tune becomes a big hit, but Fred celebrates its success without including Edna -- and breaks her heart. Eileen uses Fred's newfound wealth to wangle a proposal of marriage, and she begins spending his money at an unprecedented rate. As the wedding day approaches, Fred begins to doubt the sincerity of Eileen's love and realizes that she is keeping him from his songwriting. Maxie shrewdly brings Edna back into the picture, and true love wins the day. Includes commercials.
