TWENTY-ONE JUMP STREET {21 JUMP STREET}: ORPHEUS 3.3 (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas about the youthful-looking officers of a special unit of the Los Angeles Police Department, who go undercover in local high schools to fight crime. In this episode, officer Tom Hanson is in a convenience store with his girlfriend Amy when a gunman robs the store. Amy is shot and killed. Hanson goes back to work and acts as though all is well, but Captain Fuller makes him talk to the staff psychologist. In their first session, Hanson admits that he has been keeping his grief to himself but says that he knows no other way in which to deal with it. When the officers investigating the shooting question Hanson, it becomes clear that he feels guilt at not having prevented Amy's death. At home, Hanson watches a copy of the convenience store's surveillance tape obsessively. He measures the time in which he might have saved her -- three and three-tenths seconds -- and performs a number of tasks to see how many things he can do in that period. Meanwhile, Amy's murderer, dubbed "The Convenience Killer," is seen in a pool hall, threatening another man. Hanson's coworker Judy Hoffs stops by Hanson's apartment, and he eventually reveals his guilt over not having saved Amy. Hoffs talks with Fuller and the staff psychologist about the severity of Hanson's feelings of guilt. Meanwhile, another arrest gives the police a lead in the Convenience Killer investigation. When it pans out, Hanson finally gets the closure he needs. Commercials deleted.
