ALL IN THE FAMILY: THE JEFFERSONS MOVE UP {PILOT FOR "THE JEFFERSONS"} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a working-class household presided over by the opinionated Archie Bunker. In this episode, the Bunkers' neighbors, George and Louise Jefferson, move out of their home in Queens and into a new apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side. First, Edith bids Louise a teary farewell before the Jeffersons depart. Thrilled by the new penthouse apartment, George gives Lionel and his fiance, Jenny, a tour of the posh new home. The Jeffersons also meet their neighbor, Mr. Bentley, and George's mother drops by. But George is angry upon learning that living upstairs is an interracial couple -- Jenny's parents, Tom and Helen Willis. As a result, George vehemently insists that he and Louise will move out of the building. But George changes his mind when Bentley reveals the identity of another neighbor. Commercials deleted.

(This episode of "All in the Family" served as the pilot for "The Jeffersons," which was telecast on CBS from 1975 to 1985.)
