SQUARE PEGS: NO SUBSTITUTIONS (TV)
Summary
One in this series about an inseparable pair of adolescent high school girls who dream of someday being accepted by the popular crowd. In this episode, Patty and Lauren's home-economics-style class is flipped on its head when regular teacher Ms. Loomis is sick on the day on which she was supposed to begin teaching about marriage. The substitute teacher, an unkempt, unemployed actor named Jack McNulty, decides to go ahead with the lesson plan -- but with a few unforeseen changes. He pairs the students off by forming unorthodox couplings: new-waver Johnny Slash is hooked up with high-maintenance diva Muffy, geeky Marshall is matched with "fox" Jennifer, and wallflower Lauren gets "assigned into popularity" by being set up with bad-boy Vinnie Pasetta. When it comes time for Patty to be set up, no one is left -- and she is forced to mock-marry Mr. McNulty. Patty soon figures out that she is secretly blessed: all the other students' relationships turn sour immediately. Tensions rise when it becomes clear that Mr. Donovan is becoming jealous of all the attention being heaped on McNulty and his project. Most of the kids are having a wonderful time, however. Commercials deleted.
