RENDEZVOUS {RHEINGOLD THEATRE '59}: IN AN EARLY WINTER (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series hosted by Charles Drake. This teleplay by Stephen Sondheim is an adaptation of a New Yorker magazine short story by Roger Angell about a careful, timid woman who marries into a carefree yet careless family. Joe Scullin brings his new bride, Amanda, to visit his parents in their rambling old house in New England. After a series of mishaps occurs, Amanda concludes that her new relations are more than simply accident-prone, they are downright dangerous. To make matters worse, they blithely think nothing of the near-death incidents that take place all around them, and label Amanda a chronic worrier. The spell, however, that surrounds the family eventually affects Amanda, who crashes to the ground from an unsafe homemade swing. That night, in an effort to clean up the gasoline and paint the family has left in front of the fireplace, she inadvertently causes a disaster herself. Commercials deleted.
