HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: SIDESHOW {PART 2 OF 2} {CROSSOVER EPISODE WITH "LAW & ORDER"} (TV)

Summary

Continued from T:56259. One in this dramatic police series about a department of reflective homicide detectives in Baltimore, Maryland. Part two of a two-part crossover story between "Law & Order" and "Homicide: Life on the Street," two separate NBC police dramas. In this episode, the McBride case may not be officially over as the lawyers finish sifting through the pieces. Meanwhile, Detectives Lewis and Sheppard continue their personal battle over whether she is mentally prepared to be back on the street. After Danvers learns of his nomination to the district court bench, Jack McCoy informs him that independent counsel William Dell has taken custody of their suspect Ned Burks. Refusing to be pushed around any further in this case, Danvers and McCoy get a court order stating that they must be present whenever Burks speaks. Back in New York, Detectives Briscoe and Curtis trace the phone number found on the dead prostitute through the cellular phone records. Then, Giardello responds firmly to Michael's confession about speaking to an FBI colleague about the McBride case. Digging up information about the dead prostitute, the police learn that she was associated with a convicted drug lord who is doing a life sentence. Briscoe travels to Baltimore to warn Munch and Sheppard to expect subpoenas from Dell's office. Finally, the phone number is traced to a law firm which represents the incarcerated drug lord. The drug lord talks about the case and explains why someone within the White House administration wanted McBride dead. After hearing this information, Danvers decides to subpoena Dell and force him to reveal why he is so interested in this case. Burks commits suicide in prison and the note left by his side mentions Katherine Rainer as a key person in this whole affair. Danvers and McCoy look into private investigator Walter Dawkins' work with the White House and come up with some interesting evidence. When Dell's office intercedes once again, Danvers turns to Giardello for help especially since Danvers' background may be made public. Danvers and McCoy hear the details of the whole case from a first-hand source who works in the White House, and it leads to the arrest of Dawkins. However, Dell's office arrives and demands that Dawkins be placed under their custody in order for the case to be officially closed. Commercials deleted.
