ALLY MCBEAL: THE PLAYING FIELD (TV)
Summary
One in this whimsical comedy/drama series about the personal and professional misadventures of Ally McBeal, a neurotic young lawyer living in Boston. In this episode, Ally is still seeing her off-the-wall therapist, but is unable to understand the therapist's peculiar methods. When Ally is driving with Greg Butters and they get into a car accident, she offers to represent him. Meanwhile, John Cage has found a way to control his stuttering problem while he also develops a new courtship smile. And Richard, Georgia, and Billy are working on a sexual harassment case in which no harassment was directed toward their client, and Richard adores the idea of bringing the bizarre case to trial. Ally talks to Renee about her feelings for Greg and nervousness around him, and Renee suggests that Ally use sex appeal to indicate her interest. When Ally spies what is evidently the dancing baby that haunts her, she follows her therapist's advice and kicks the creature -- which turns out to be nine-year-old lawyer Oren Koolie. In court, the boss who is charged with sexual harassment takes the stand and Billy corners him. And Ally attempts to use her sex appeal on Greg, who seems uncomfortable and nervous around her. In the meantime, Oren, the lawyer for the accident victim, starts to cry when Ally and John explain that no monetary damages will be awarded. Ultimately, Ally lends Oren a sympathetic ear and listens to his remarks about his client. Also, Richard's summation in the sexual harassment case shocks everyone; and, once the accident case is settled, Ally takes matters with Greg into her own hands. Commercials deleted.
