ALLY MCBEAL: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY (TV)
Summary
One in this whimsical comedy/drama series about the personal and professional misadventures of Ally McBeal, a neurotic young lawyer living in Boston. In this episode, Ally doesn't feel like celebrating her birthday, but Elaine decides the office should throw Ally a party at the bar. Meanwhile, Ally and John Cage are handling a client with a foot fetish, and they try to use his love for feet to plead insanity. Renee, the prosecuting attorney on the case, argues that the man broke into a woman's home in order to touch her feet. Also, Elaine begs Greg Butters to sing a song at Ally's party, but he feels the situation would be too awkward. When Ally and Greg go on another date, they exchange a kiss, but he refuses Ally's offer to come upstairs. In the meantime, the foot fetishist denies his chance to plead insanity because he feels true love for the woman whose feet he fondled. So, at the bar, Ally and John bring the two clients together to settle the case on neutral ground. Ally is stunned when Elaine and Renee appear on stage to sing a duet for Ally's birthday, and then Greg takes the stage and performs a love song. As Ally enjoys the moment, Renee jumps on stage with Greg to finish off the number. Ally leaves the bar in a huff, only to find Greg at her apartment later in evening. But ultimately, he declares he is accepting a job offer in another city. Commercials deleted.
