PRACTICE, THE: SPIRIT OF AMERICA (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas about the idealistic attorneys at a struggling Boston law practice. This episode is told from the perspective of a documentary filmmaker chronicling the last day of life for Randall Jefferson, the convicted killer of nineteen-year-old Jennifer Carson. Bobby and the firm are called in at the last moment to try to halt Randall's execution on the grounds that he was not granted a fair trial. Bobby and Lindsay have no trouble trying to save a guilty murderer on a technicality, but the two question the morality of their task since the victim was one of Ellenor's friends and Jimmy sympathizes with Jennifer's parents. First the attorneys present their case to the clemency board, which upholds the prior conviction. Next, the State Supreme Court dismisses their appeal, and finally the governor refuses to grant a pardon. Meanwhile, Jimmy spends time with Randall and becomes close to the person he formerly despised. Finally, the Supreme Court becomes involved only a few hours before the execution is scheduled to take place. Includes commercials, promos and public service announcements.
