HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: MERCY (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic police series about a department of reflective homicide detectives in Baltimore, Maryland. In this episode, Pembleton and Bayliss investigate a case about a doctor who provides her hospice patients with questionable treatment; Falsone and Stivers search for the unknown shooter who killed two innocent people in an armed robbery; and Gharty and Ballard close in on two addicted brothers who have killed a drug dealer. Also, when a terminal cancer patient dies, his sister insists that his physician, Dr. Roxanne Turner, killed him with a drug overdose. During the investigation, Bayliss finds Dr. Turner to be a humane and competent doctor, while Pembleton suspects that Dr. Turner administers excessive drugs and euthanizes patients. Because her patients, their families, and her co-workers support Dr. Turner's practices, there is no proof that she performs mercy killings. But Pembleton cannot let the case rest without a debate over morals with Turner and a vow that he will monitor her practice. Falsone and Stivers investigate a restaurant robbery that left the owner dead and a twelve-year-old girl the victim of a stray bullet. After a frustrating start on the case, the detectives get a lucky lead, but Giardello tempers their enthusiasm with a reminder that the death of an innocent child haunts police officers. Finally, Gharty and Ballard learn the McCord brothers have returned to Baltimore. The detectives intimidate and bluff their mother, Donna McCord, in order to locate her sons, but Ballard feels uncomfortable with their less-than-honest techniques. Commercials deleted.
