JIM HENSON'S DOG CITY: THE BIG SQUEAK {SERIES
PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The premiere in this animated/muppet series about a cartoon world of canines in which Ace Hart operates a private eye service, as drawn by his canine muppet creator Eliot Shag. The program begins with Ace surrounded by the villainous Baron Rottweiler, who tries to blow him up. However, Ace escapes, impressing chief of police detectives Rosie O'Gravy. At the tale's conclusion, animator Eliot tells protege Artie about creating Ace and his adventures. Then, Eliot gets a call from his boss, who wants a new show by the next day. Eliot begins work on "The Big Squeak." In the program, some mongrels led by Bugsy Vile try to rob rich pooch T.H. of his million-dollar "Maltese Mouse" statue. However, the mongrels can't find where T.H. hid the bunny toy whose squeak is needed to open the safe. Meanwhile, Ace begins to notice that all squeaky toys are disappearing from the city. Ace details the importance of squeaky toys to canines. Then -- after Ace takes Eliot to task about plot developments -- newspup Eddie arrives, telling Ace that his squeaky toy has been swiped. In fact, Ace notices that his own squeaky duck has been stolen. Meanwhile, Bugsy is furious that his goons have yet to find the correct squeaky toy to open the safe. Then, his moll Kitty arrives. Following up on newspaper headlines, Ace and Eddie go to T.H.'s mansion to investigate, running into Rosie on the scene. Ace and Rosie briefly flirt. Then, Eddie finds the coveted squeaky bunny, which Ace has him hold for safe-keeping. Back at his apartment, Ace is confronted by Bugsy, who arrives with Ace's beloved squeaky duck, trying to make a swap for T.H.'s toy. After discovering that Ace doesn't have the goods, Bugsy takes the private eye back to his lair. The next day, Eddie arrives at Bugsy's place to rescue Ace, thinking that the cops are right behind him. However, the inept police have gone to the wrong address. Thus, Bugsy gets the squeaky bunny and the Maltese Mouse. Then, as Bugsy prepares to put an end to Ace, Eddie, and T.H., Ace stops the action to wonder how Eliot will keep them alive. Eventually, Ace and Eliot come up with a clever way to save the day. Finally, Ace takes down Bugsy and his cronies, with the town's canines then getting their squeakies back as Rosie looks on admiringly. Afterward, Eliot gives Artie a delivery for his boss: the new finished episode. Commercials deleted.
