Summary
The pilot for this drama series,, featuring David Lynch's sinister, surreal portrait of small-town life. As the program begins, Pete Martell finds the body of Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic on the lake shore; Sheriff Harry S. Truman informs her father, and her mother has a breakdown upon overhearing the news; Harry detains Laura's boyfriend, Bobby Briggs, who insists he did not murder her; the principal announces the tragic news to the stunned student body, devastating Laura's best friend, Donna Hayward, and her secret boyfriend, James Hurley; the police find two clues, Laura's diary and a video camera; Josie Packard, the majority owner of the Packard Mill, shuts down the mill out of respect for Laura, much to the chagrin of co-owner Catherine Martell; and a missing girl, Ronette Pulaski, is spotted on the railroad tracks, battered and wearing a torn negligee. As FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper arrives in Twin Peaks to investigate Laura's murder, the following events occur: Agent Cooper visits the comatose Ronette, whom he is eager to question, and finds beneath Laura's fingernail a tiny piece of paper inscribed with the letter "R"; Agent Cooper reads Laura's diary, where she expresses anxiety about a visit with "J"; Agent Cooper finds cocaine residue, a safety deposit box key, and a tape of Laura and Donna mugging for an unseen individual recording them on a videocam; the mischievous Audrey Horne scares away her father Ben's Norwegian business colleagues with a horrifying description of Laura's murder; after Agent Cooper questions him about the letter "J", Bobby vows revenge on James; Agent Cooper speaks with Donna, who is lying to protect someone; Agent Cooper finds finds a clue to the mystery person in Laura's eye; Deputy Andy Brennan weeps as he reports what he discovered in an abandoned train car -- Laura's blood, half of a gold heart-shaped locket, and an inscribed message, "Fire Walk With Me"; Agent Cooper and Harry link Ronette to an ad in a pornographic magazine; Agent Cooper imposes a curfew on the teenagers, but Donna sneaks out to meet James, and is followed by Mike Nelson and Bobby, as well as Agent Cooper and Harry; Ed Hurley and Norma Jennings have a secret rendezvous at the Roadhouse, where Donna's presence sparks a brawl; James recalls his final night with Laura, then hides half of the gold locket in the woods before turning himself in for questioning; Harry embraces his secret lover, Josie; and Sarah Palmer has a terrifying vision of Laura's killer. Commercials deleted.
