Summary

One in this series of news magazines hosted by Hugh Downs and Barbara Walters, this edition features two segments, "Prisoner in the Palace" and "The Way They Are." In "Prisoner in the Palace," Nancy Collins interviews former Miss USA Shannon Marketic about her traumatic experience in the royal palace of Brunei, and her ninety-million-dollar lawsuit against the Sultan of Brunei and his brother the Prince. Marketic describes her experiences as a hostage and her charges of prostitution and white slavery. Collins also interviews Marketic's parents, Kathy Muller, owner of a modeling agency contacted by an agent from Brunei, and three other women who spent time in the palace. Collins draws her own conclusions from the conflicting reports on the situation in Brunei. In "The Way They Are," Barbara Walters interviews Barbra Streisand and her fiancé, actor James Brolin, in their California home. After a clip of Streisand's first show in twenty seven years, they discuss the following topics, among others: Streisand's friendship with Virginia Clinton and the inspiration for her most recent album, "Higher Ground"; her duet and relationship with singer Celine Dion; the destructive power of the press; and the messages expressed in her album and in the song "If I Could." After showing a clip of a "20/20" interview with Walters and Streisand from 1993, they discuss Streisand's new love, James Brolin. Clips of some of Brolin's work in "Marcus Welby," "The Amityville Horror," and "Pensacola Wings of Gold" are shown as Brolin joins Streisand and Walters. Together, the couple talks about their relationship and plans for the future. Includes commercials, promos, and a preview for "Nightline" with Ted Koppel.
