HAPPY DAYS: HOME MOVIES {PART 1 OF 2} {NINTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in the series of comedies about life in the 1950s. In this episode, Joanie sends Richie an audio tape that provides narration for accompanying home movies from the summer of '62. Joanie talks about starting a job selling hot dogs at Weenie Heaven with Jenny, Roger getting a lifeguard job at the beach, and why Howard hired Potsie at the hardware store. She also explains how her troubles with Chachi started on the Fourth of July. That day, Howard hosts a barbecue attended by Lori Beth, Al, and his mother, among others. Party guest Fonz opens a letter from his former gang members, the Falcons, regarding a reunion that he doesn't think he has time to attend. Then, Lori Beth announces she is going to have a baby, prompting Marion to ask her to move in to Richie's old room. Later, Howard tries to fulfill his "patriotic" duty by watching Braves baseball. That night, as the fireworks explode in the air, Joanie and Jenny are forced to work by Mrs. Von Huene, though Chachi tries to convince Joanie otherwise. Meanwhile, Roger makes a move on fellow lifeguard Corrine. She says she's training for the Olympics and has temporarily sworn off men. Later, Bobby tries to cheer up a bummed Chachi. Then, a frisbee hits Chachi and it is soon retrieved by Terry, an attractive blonde. Chachi is trepidatious but eventually pursues her. Later that summer, Roger struggles to swim train with Corrine while Fonz gets some help with his lesson plans from from another teacher, Alicia. Quickly, however, they are kissing, though Fonz is freaked out when she calls him "wonderfully normal." Back at Arnold's, Al's mother is driving him crazy with her constant nagging. Later, Joanie and Jenny run into Jenny's "trampy cousin" Carla and pal Terry, who reveals that she had a "marvy" time with Chachi on the Fourth. Chachi arrives at Arnold's and the furious Joanie breaks up with him. Both Joanie and Chachi are miserable being apart. One day, Chachi comes by the Cunningham home and Marion tries to stop him from entering. By August, Chachi keeps trying to woo Joanie back but she continues to reject him. Meanwhile, Fonz tries to not be "normal" as the baseball-obsessed Howard gives him some advice about life's responsibilites and living for the moment. Thus, Fonz decides to go to the Falcons' reunion, where he runs into pals Shades and Rocco, as well as old flame Hillary. Finally, Johnny Suede, a member of rival gang the Warmongers, arrives and challenges the Falcons to a fight. The gangs then prepare to rumble. Commercials deleted.
