FERNWOOD TONIGHT {FERNWOOD 2 NIGHT}: UNCLE SAM, JR., I (TV)
Summary
One in this series of satirical, mock talk shows set in Fernwood, Ohio, hosted by the smarmy Barth Gimble and his dim-witted sidekick Jerry Hubbard.
After reassuring the audience that this thirteenth episode of the show will be free from bad luck, Barth welcomes poet-patriot Vern Taylor, who delivers a bizarre, impassioned speech criticizing David Frost's interviews with Richard M. Nixon. Barth then interviews educator Dr. Arthur Shack, who demonstrates his revolutionary use of electro-shock therapy as a teaching aid. Fernwood Fascinating Females League representative Candy Lee Hargrove joins the panel to discuss her organization's recent conference on gynecology; Jerry, recognizing the medical term, wonders when a cure will been found. Finally, Barth entertains the audience with a high-octane rendition of the rock 'n' roll standard "C.C. Rider," accompanied by Happy Kyne and Vern Taylor on horns. Commercials deleted.
(Martin Mull and Fred Willard reprised their roles as Barth Gimble and Jerry Hubbard on "America Tonight," telecast in syndication in 1978.)
