FERNWOOD TONIGHT {FERNWOOD 2 NIGHT}: THE RANSOM (TV)
Summary
One in this series of satirical, mock talk shows set in Fernwood, Ohio, hosted by the smarmy Barth Gimble and his dim-witted sidekick Jerry Hubbard.
In this installment, Barth interviews three mobsters -- disguised as Porky Pig, Captain Hook, and Bugs Bunny to protect their identities -- about the rising crime rate and measures citizens can take to avoid robbery. Next, bandleader Happy Kyne sings his own composition, "Ice Cream Baby." Barth then interviews malaprop-prone Fernwood provocateur William W.D. "Bud" Prize, who is incensed over the theft of his "chow-chow" (a relish-like foodstuff). Finally, Barth is blindsided when a member of his fan club delivers a singing subpoena regarding some past indiscretions committed in the Miami area. Commercials deleted.
(Martin Mull and Fred Willard reprised their roles as Barth Gimble and Jerry Hubbard in "America Tonight," telcast in syndication in 1978.)
