MURPHY BROWN: BIRTH 101 {FOURTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Murphy Brown, a high-profile, successful broadcast newswoman, and her colleagues at the news magazine "FYI." In this episode, Murphy delivers her baby son after a protracted labor, during which the pain-addled journalist flamboyantly abuses her flustered coworkers and sundry hospital personnel. When Eldin, Murphy's flakey Lamaze coach, mysteriously disappears, Murphy's desperation reaches an operatic pitch as she is wracked by uncertainty about her choice to become a mother. Eldin's last-minute arrival allows Murphy to focus and get through the ordeal, but her ambivalence lingers as she considers her ignorance of the basics of parenting -- until colleague Frank Fontana's video camera ironically serves as the agent of the first intimacy between the mother and baby. Videotaped messages to the infant from the FYI staff are interspersed throughout the program. Commercials deleted.
