NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS, FIRST ROUND, 1986: GAME 2 {CHICAGO BULLS VS. BOSTON CELTICS} (TV)
Summary
Live coverage of the second game of this 1986 NBA Eastern Conference playoff series between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics. Dick Stockton and Tom Heinsohn call the action from Boston Garden. Led by star rookie Michael Jordan, the Bulls end the first quarter with a thirty-three-to-twenty-five advantage. At halftime, the Bulls retain their lead, fifty eight to fifty-one. The halftime segment, hosted by Pat O'Brien, includes a survey of other first-round NBA games; a recap of the previous day's boxing match between Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks; an update on the Heritage Classic; and an interview with Julius Erving, who discusses his future plans.
The game continues at the start of the second half, with the Bulls ahead, fifty-eight to fifty-one. By the end of the third quarter, the Celtics continue to trail, ninety-one to eighty-eight. Larry Bird, the high scorer for the Celtics, starts the fourth quarter off with a quick basket; with eleven minutes to go he sinks a three-pointer to give the Celtics the lead. At the end of regulation time, right at the buzzer, Jordan is fouled; his successful free throws tie the game at 116 to116. The overtime period finishes in a draw, 125 to 125. In double overtime, the Celtics finally pull ahead and win the game, 135 to 131. Most Valuable Player Jordan's sixty-three game points set a new NBA playoff record. Commercials deleted.
