SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE {TERI HATCHER, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of live, late-night comedy/variety programs featuring topical satire. Teri Hatcher hosts this program, featuring musical guest Dave Matthews Band. In the opening sketch, the cast spoofs convicted unabomber Ted Kaczynski listening to proposed legal strategies from Johnnie Cochran, F. Lee Bailey, Leslie Abrahmson, and actor Daniel Benzali. In the opening monologue, Hatcher reads a congratulatory note from cast member Will Ferrell, but stops and asks Ferrell to come onstage and read it himself. Sketches include the following: a commercial parody for Old Glory Insurance, with Sam Waterston, who explains the company covers robot attacks; a Catholic high school rehearsal for a production of "West Side Story," where prop girl Mary Catherine Gallagher wants to be the star; two people trying to enjoy a romantic evening with wine and music; a preview for the new sitcom "The Princess and the Homeboy"; the break-up of the Spartan cheerleaders, as Craig is recruited for a big-time cheerleading squad, leaving Ariana behind; and "Weekend Update" with Norm MacDonald, featuring a review of the Masters Golf Tournament. Other highlights include: Dave Matthews Band performing "Too Much"; "Spade in America," featuring Hatcher, dressed as David Spade, and Spade, dressed like Hatcher, trading insults; "The Local News," telecast from Joe Blow's basement, featuring MacDonald and locals from Queens; "Fuzzy Memories by Jack Handy"; a church rummage sale that turns into a fight between two women; and Dave Matthews Band performing "So Much to Say," followed by a commercial parody for Pet Chow Rat Poison. Includes commercials and promos.
