ANDY WARHOL'S TV {SHOW #3} {CINDY SHERMAN, ISSEY MIYAKE, HALL & OATES} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of talk/interview programs, loosely adapted from Andy Warhol's Interview magazine. Warhol introduces the program from a stationary bicycle. In Soho, Rosalee Goldberg remarks on the evolution of the neighborhood and then interviews photographer Cindy Sherman, who comments on the following: the influence of television and other media on her art; the inspiration for and demise of her earlier black-and-white photography; and the autobiographical quality in her self-portraits. Included are Sherman photographs, 1978-79 and 1981-82. Goldberg then interviews dancer and choreographer Molissa Fenley. After Fenley performs "Will Power," excerpted from "Eureka," Fenley and discusses the following subjects: the unique and rigorous physical training she designed for herself; the movement that comes from her athletic training; and the challenges choreographers face when presenting experimental dance. Fenley then performs another excerpt, entitled "Second Sight." Next is an interview with fashion designer Issey Miyake, with footage of his fashion show aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid. Miyake and Daniela Morera of Interview magazine discuss the following: the significance of a Japanese fashion show aboard an American World War II warship; Miyake's fascination with the body's shape and movement; and the huge crew of professionals who contributed to Miyake's elaborate fashion show. Finally, Warhol joins the musical group Hall & Oates in Poughkeepsie, New York. John Oates and Darryl Hall talk about various aspects of their upcoming tour, from the quality of the audience to the daily routine on the tour bus. Commercials deleted.

(Network varies; this series was telecast on Manhattan Cable TV from 1981 to 1984 and on the Madison Square Garden Network in 1983.)

Cataloging of this program was made possible by the Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 1999.
