FRED ASTAIRE'S PREMIERE THEATRE: THE JAIL {ALCOA PRESENTS} (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series, hosted by Fred Astaire. In this science fiction drama set in the year 2002, John Gavin stars as Bill Fortnum, a man accused of committing a Federal offense. Fortnum, however, has no recollection of committing a crime, and the sinister police officer who takes him into custody is not forthcoming with details. Fortnum is brought to a high-tech courtroom inhabited entirely by computer simulations of human beings -- the judge and jury included -- and to his horror the entire legal process is completed in minutes, culminating in a guilty verdict. But the true horror is yet to come: Fortnum's sentence takes the form of a "state experiment" in which his mind is transferred into the body of a dying old man and the old man receives Fortnum's youthful body. Commercials deleted.
