MURDER ONE: CHAPTER TWO, YEAR TWO (TV)
Summary
One in this serial drama series focusing, in its second season, on three major cases of attorney Jimmy Wyler and his associates. In this episode, Miriam Grasso's opening statement contains information that takes Wyler completely by surprise: Sharon Rooney was pregnant with Governor Van Allen's child and, at his insistence, had an abortion. Other developments include the following: Wyler begins to doubt that Rooney was the killer; Wyler's former assistant, Gwen, asks him for her old job back, and Wyler must give Louis the bad news; Wyler is angered by Docknovich's continuing hostility; in his opening statement to the jury, Wyler hints that the victims' head wounds indicate an organized crime hit; Wyler makes a deal with a tabloid reporter for information about the relationship between the governor's widow, Carolyn Van Allen, and the cop who claims he saw Rooney running from the scene of the crime; a flirtatious Van Allen pays Wyler a visit; Wyler meets with an operative who wants $25,000 in exchange for revealing the identity of a mole in Garfield's office; Rooney's roommate testifies in her defense; Wyler learns that workmen discovered microphones in his office and he senses that Garfield might be behind this; the operative is found dead of an apparent drug overdose and Wyler suspects Garfield and Malcolm Dietrich; Wyler and his mother are joined for dinner by Wyler's girlfriend, whose nervousness about meeting Jimmy's mother is exacerbated by a startling revelation about Dietrich.
