ANDY WARHOL'S TV: DAVID HOCKNEY ON PARADE AND AN
EVENING AT THE SAINT (TV)
Summary
One in this series of talk/interview programs, loosely
adapted from Andy Warhol's Interview magazine. The
program begins with scenes from an informal luncheon at
WarholÕs studio. Next an interview with painter David
Hockney includes a discussion of the following subjects:
HockneyÕs background as a youth and an emerging artist;
his affinity for California; the tendency of younger
artists (like Hockney) to paint pleasant subjects; the
importance of taking joy in small things; the artist's
attitude towards fashion; and his fascination with
transparent surfaces such as water. Hockney then
recalls his experiences in designing sets for the
theater, in both England and the U.S., and reflects on
his early interest in art. Also included are images of
HockneyÕs paintings and theatrical designs. Next, at
the Saint night club in New York City, club owner Bruce
Mailman discusses his goals in the development of the
club, and fashion designer Ron Chereskin hosts a show of
his casual clothing line for men.
(Network varies; this series was telecast on Manhattan
Cable TV from 1981 to 1984 and on the Madison Square
Garden Network in 1983.)
Cataloging of this program was made possible by the
Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, 1999.
