ANDY WARHOL'S TV: SONIA RYKIEL PARIS 1981; CRUZEIRO
CRAZY IN RIO {WA.00.0216} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of talk/interview programs, loosely adapted from Andy Warhol's Interview magazine. The first segment, "Barney's Presents Sonia Rykiel, Pierre Hotel, NYC," features footage from French designer Sonia Rykiel's 1981 fashion show, interspersed with clips of an interview with Rykiel. Between scenes from her lively fashion show, Rykiel comments on the following subjects: the significance of the color black; her penchant for ambiguity in her fashions; the use of gesture and movement in her shows; fashion designers' emergence as artists, comparable to painters and writers; and the challenges that face a successful fashion designer. Then, Gene Pressman speaks about the work that went into the American version of Rykiel's show. In the next segment, "Cruzeiro Crazy in Rio," Warhol hosts a segment on Rio de Janeiro, focusing on the beach culture. Included are comments by Warhol, scenes of the activity on the Ipanema and Pipino beaches, and several vistas of the area around Rio. Finally, in "Andy in Aspen," Warhol talks about his trip to Aspen, where he enjoyed parties with celebrities and went skiing for the first time. Included are Warhol's comments, footage of the pop artist on skiis, and photographs of several celebrities such as Sonny Bono.
