ER {E.R.}: 24 HOURS {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The pilot episode in this series of dramas about the emergency room team of an inner-city Chicago hospital. This episode, which takes place on St. Patrick's Day, begins with a building collapse that injures twelve people. Highlights from this episode include: Dr. Benton revives the heart of an elderly woman and brings her back to life; medical students John Carter, who lacks practical experience, and Tracy Young, who lacks tact and bedside manner, begin their apprenticeships under Dr. Benton and Dr. Ross; Dr. Greene delivers a baby to a woman who almost gives birth in a cab; Dr. Lewis tells a patient that he may have lung cancer with only six months to a year to live; Dr. Greene is offered a position at an upscale medical practice but is uncertain about accepting it; an eccentric, wealthy woman in need of companionship and conversation requests the removal of a hangnail; Dr. Benton and Dr. Carter decide on immediate surgery for a thirteen-year-old pregnant girl; Dr. Ross treats a baby abused by his mother; Dr. Greene, comforting Dr. Carter on his first day on the job, gives him some insight into the difficult Dr. Benton; a college student attempts to seduce Dr. Greene; and Dr. Benton, only a resident at the hospital, performs emergency surgery on a ruptured abdominal anurism. Tragedy comes to the staff when Nurse Hathaway is brought into the emergency room having overdosed in an apparent suicide attempt. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
