ER {E.R.}: JOHN CARTER, M.D. {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about the emergency room team of an inner-city Chicago hospital. This episode is set on the day of Carter's graduation from medical school -- but his entire day is spent caring for a little girl who needs a liver transplant. By missing his graduation ceremony, he and Dr. Benton form an unlikely bond. Against his better judgment, Dr. Greene makes a deal with Dr. Weaver and agrees to approve her for the position of attending physician if she will support Dr. Lewis's nomination as chief resident. Much to his surprise, Lewis turns down the job, and he regrets having negotiated with Weaver after all. Meanwhile, Jeanie has an AIDS test after learning that her estranged husband has tested positive for HIV, and she advises Dr. Benton to do the same. Also, Dr. Greene is dismayed over his ex-wife's decision to remarry; he also reluctantly denies a cancer patient's request that he act as guardian for her children if she dies. Meanwhile, Dr. Ross fears that his girlfriend Karen is using him and will cause him trouble. Nurse Hathaway has a trying day: after witnessing a two-day-old infant with a heart condition, a man who chooses not to treat his lung cancer, and the unnecessary pain that a twelve-year old accident victim endures -- all due to hospital policies and medical costs -- she quits in anger and frustration. She then tells Shep that she cannot continue dating him unless he seeks professional help to cope with Raul's death. Commercials deleted.
