CHICAGO HOPE: LEAVE OF ABSENCE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of medical dramas about the personal and professional lives of the staff of the state-of-the-art Chicago Hope Hospital and the ethical dilemmas they face. In this episode, hospital attorney Alan Birch is repeatedly shot by a young gang member in an el station mugging, while Dr. Diane Grad looks on in horror; and later, Dr. Jeffrey Geiger has a realization about how self-centered his life is and makes a surprising decision. While the Chicago Hope surgery team frantically works to save their dear friend, another gunfire victim arrives in the E.R.: the young man who assaulted Birch. Upon realizing whom she is about to treat, Grad becomes enraged and attacks the black youth, putting both her career and her friendship with Dr. Dennis Hancock in jeopardy. In other developments, Nurse Camille Shutt happens upon her ex-husband, Dr. Aaron Shutt, and Dr. Kate Austin kissing; and Geiger starts a new chapter in his life. Commercials deleted.
