Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include comedienne/actress Gilda Radner, legendary news anchor Walter Cronkite, and singer Karen Akers. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: how pleasant the city of Burbank is, seeing his picture on the front page of tabloid magazines, his walk down Hollywood Boulevard, a historical event that took place on this day in 1492, shopping for Thanksgiving, seeing President Ronald Reagan dressed in battle fatigues, and the presidential candidates. Next, Carson talks about the ongoing joke war between neighboring states and reads some of the insulting jokes. The first guest, Gilda Radner, talks about how much she owes to the writers of "Saturday Night Live"; how nervous she is about being on the show with Carson, whom she admires so much; whether she is similar to some of the characters she plays; her new book, which is written as her character Roseanne Roseannadanna; and what book-signing tours are like. The next guest, Walter Cronkite, comments on how he misses the routine of doing the nightly newscast; how the press has been handling the situation in Grenada; why the 1960s is considered the most dramatic decade ever; how he found himself speechless when man stepped on the moon; the source of his love of sailing; and the ridiculous requests people make at book-signing functions. The last guest, Karen Akers, sings "Nevertheless, I'm in Love with You." Includes commercials and promos.
