JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP: PINK HOUSES AND AUTHORITY SONG (TV)

Summary

The first of four programs on this tape. This compilation of music videos showcases six productions from the 1980s. This segment features two songs from John Cougar Mellencamp's 1984 "Uh-Huh" album: "Pink Houses" and "Authority Song." In "Pink Houses," classic images of the mid-west are interspersed with lyrics about the joys and challenges of living in America. Mellencamp -- dressed in his signature getup of white T-shirt, dungaree jacket, jeans, white socks, and black penny loafers -- serves as a de facto narrator while singing of lost dreams and hope for the future. In "The Authority Song," Mellencamp is featured as a rebellious prize-fighter -- again attired in T-shirt, jeans, white socks, and black Weejuns -- who defies the odds and becomes the inspiration for a young boy that emulates him in action and attire.
