ABC NEWS: TURNING POINT: REBIRTH . . . THE UNTOLD
STORIES OF OKLAHOMA CITY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of news magazine programs that takes an in-depth look at a specific topic. This installment focuses on the families affected by the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. This program was telecast exactly one year after the terrorist act. Members of the families discuss events that occurred on days before, during, and after the bombing, detailing the emotional turmoil that followed and the current state of their lives. The following persons comment on their loss: Bill and Chrissy Titsworth; Jim and Claudia Denny; Glenn and Clint Seidl; Aren Almon; Edie and Tony Smith; and Janie Coverdale. During the program, the Titsworths comment on the loss of their youngest daughter, the experience of being inside the building upon the explosion, FBI suspicions that Bill Titsworth was involved in the attack, tensions that grew within their family, and the disaster's effects on their surviving children and their future. The Dennys comment on their anxiety while waiting for their son's rescue, their son Brandon Denny's critical condition, his struggle, and his ability to overcome the odds. Glenn Seidl and his son, Clint, comment on the loss of Clint's mother, Kathy, and their attempts to learn to live without her. Then, Aren Almon comments on the horrible way her daughter's dead figure has become a souvenir item: one-year-old Bayley Almon was the child that firefighter Chris Fields was carrying in the famous photo that became a symbol of the bombing. Next, the Smiths discuss the loss of their two sons and their attempts to learn the truth about the disaster, and Edie discusses the therapeutic role of the media and her controversial decision to appear on talk shows soon after the blast. Finally, Janie Coverdale describes her inability to fill the void in her life after the loss of her grandchildren, Aaron and Elijah, whom she had been raising. This program includes footage of the bomb site, injured victims, Brandon Denny in an intensive care unit, and six children who survived the blast. Includes commercials, promos, and public service announcements. This program is closed-captioned.
