FRANK SINATRA SPECTACULAR: THE RAT PACK CAPTURED {TAPE 2 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

Continued from T:42248. Part two of two of this unaired benefit concert featuring the Rat Pack -- Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Dean Martin -- in their only joint television performance. This special was televised via closed-circuit from St. Louis to a select group of theaters, where ticket buyers watched the live performance on screen. The concert was organized by Sinatra as a fundraiser for Dismas Clark Half-Way House of St. Louis, the first halfway house for ex-convicts. Highlights of this part include the following: host Johnny Carson introduces Frank Sinatra, who sings "Get Me to the Church on Time," "Fly Me to the Moon," "Luck Be a Lady," "I Only Have Eyes for You," and "I've Got You Under My Skin"; while Sinatra sings "Please Be Kind," Martin and Davis make jokes from the wings in mock-impatience with the length of his set; Sinatra performs "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "My Kind of Town" (changing the words to honor St. Louis); Martin, Davis, and Johnny Carson join Sinatra on stage for some raucous joking; Sinatra introduces his seventeen-year-old daughter, Tina, whose birthday is on this day, and she is serenaded with "Happy Birthday" by the four men; Sinatra does an impression of James Cagney, Martin imitates Cary Grant and Clark Gable, and Davis and Martin do an impression of "The Kingfish" (Tim Moore) from "Amos and Andy"; Sinatra, Davis, Martin, and Carson sing "Birth of the Blues"; and singer Kaye Stevens joins them on stage for a final bow. This program contains minor technical problems. This represents the best copy of this program currently available to the Museum.
