FRIDAYS {ANDY KAUFMAN, THE PRETENDERS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night comedy/variety programs. This edition, hosted by offbeat comedian Andy Kaufman, features the Pretenders as musical guests. Highlights, among others, include: Andy Kaufman portrays his character of Foreign Man and does his rendition of the Mighty Mouse theme song; Kaufman announces that he is engaged to gospel singer Kathy Sullivan and the two sing "Home Again"; the first sketch concerns a video game being installed in a pharmacy with an eccentric, stressed out pharmacist; a "Friday Edition" special report features a video of how President Ronald Reagan spent his month-long vacation; the Pretenders perform "The Adultress"; in the next sketch, a family goes to a fancy restaurant but refuses to take off their hats at the table because some of their body parts are in strange places; the "Friday Edition," featuring correspondent Rich Hall, recaps the day's top news stories; Kaufman does an audience participation routine; the Pretenders perform "Message of Love"; a "Friday Edition" Late Break story concerns a nuclear power plant protest; the Pretenders perform "Talk of the Town"; and in the last sketch, a son goes to see his father after many years and finds that the bad blood between them still exists, until the son happens to make a big mistake. Kaufman ends the show by singing his favorite gospel song, "By and By." Commercials deleted.
