PLAYHOUSE 90: VIOLENT HEART (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic anthology series. In this program, a Marquise, Catherine D'Alencon, fills a void created by her husband's perpetual absence by having a relationship with a middle-class photographer who has the soul of an artist. When the D'Alencons visit the Riviera for a vacation, Catherine is pleased that she will finally have time to spend with her husband who is too often caught-up with business. However, as usual, he receives an urgent message that takes him away from his family. Catherine is distraught and goes for a long walk through the town near her hotel. It is very hot out and feeling faint, Catherine wanders over to an enclosed area with a fountain in order to rest. There, a photographer, Paul, brings her a cup of water. As she drinks, the photographer recognizes her as having been in his shop earlier that day buying film. They begin to talk and Catherine tells Paul that she would like portraits of her and her daughter done as a present for her husband when he returns. Paul eagerly agrees to take the job. He is quite taken with Catherine's beauty and wants to spend any time he can with her. While photographing Catherine, Paul tells her of ancient ruins nearby that he visits every afternoon. Soon, Catherine finds herself visiting them -- and Paul -- every day. Then, Catherine learns that her husband will be returning in a couple of days. Eventually, Catherine goes to the ruins to tell Paul that their relationship must end. When she does, he begins to argue with her about their future, and tragedy strikes. In addition, throughout this story, Paul's sister Annette, feels a growing resentment towards Catherine and does everything she can to discourage him from continuing his secret relationship with her. Includes commercials and promos.
