ROSEANNE: SHERWOOD SCHWARTZ: A LOVING TRIBUTE {SEVENTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Roseanne and Dan Conner, a working-class couple who live in Lanford, Illinois, and their three children, D.J., Darlene, and Becky. In this episode, David announces his plans to take a month-long European tour, much to Darlene's dismay. Meanwhile, Roseanne insists that Dan stop tinkering with an old boat in the garage. In a fantasy sequence, Dan imagines he and Roseanne are taking a luxurious cruise on a boat. But Roseanne believes they would wind up marooned on a desert island instead. The following fantasy sequence parodies the television program, "Gilligan's Island," featuring Dan as the Skipper, Roseanne as Ginger, Jackie as Gilligan, Darlene as Mary Ann, Mark as the Professor, Leon Carp as Mr. Howell, and Roseanne's mother as Mrs. Howell. David, as himself, wanders around the island, wishing he had gone to Europe. After Gilligan is attacked by crabs, a filling in his tooth picks up a radio broadcast about a typhoon, but the announcement is followed by a volcanic eruption and an earthquake instead. Once headhunters imprison the castaways, the fantasy dissolves: Roseanne has evidently failed to convince Dan that a boating trip would be a disaster. Darlene, however, reconsiders whether she wants David to remain in Lanford since his only summer prospect is a job at a pizza place. And ultimately, Roseanne agrees to let Dan keep his sailing dream. The program concludes with a segment in which members of the cast of "Gilligan's Island" impersonate the cast of "Roseanne," with a special appearance by Sherwood Schwartz. This program is closed-captioned. Includes commercials.
