Summary
This comedy special, hosted by Rodney Dangerfield, features nine up-and-coming stand-up comedians: Louie Anderson, Harry Basil, Richie Gold, Sam Kinison, Maurice Lamarche, Bob Nelson, Rita Rudner, Bob Saget, and Yakov Smirnoff.
Dangerfield starts the show with some of his own stand-up routine and then introduces Maurice Lamarche, who does impressions of Christopher Lloyd, Dudley Moore, Ronald Reagan, and Rod Serling. New York-born comic Richie Gold then discusses his previous job as a teacher in the New York City school system and what it is like traveling around the world. Bob Nelson then does his routine of football players being introduced. Humorist Rita Rudner takes the stage next and talks about pregnancy, men living on their own, and how salesmen constantly lie to customers. Using the audience in his routine, Harry Basil does an impression of actor Tom Cruise from the movie "Risky Business." Russian-born comedian Yakov Smirnoff then japes about being in the United States for only a short time, doing comedy in his homeland, and his first impressions of New York. Screaming comic Sam Kinison talks about not getting married, changes men undergo after they get married, and the solution to world hunger. Bob Saget graces the stage next and discusses his childhood and what it is like living in California, constantly having to worry about earthquakes. Closing the show, monologist Louie Anderson makes fun of his weight problem and the way his older brothers tormented him, until he had a younger brother to torment.
