AS WE SEE IT: 22 YEARS SINCE LITTLE ROCK (TV)

Summary

One in this series of educational programs that discusses the desegregation of America's high schools. In this program, Little Rock Central High School is looked at twenty-two years after it was desegregated. Topics include the following: the history of the high school; the activities that used to go on at Central before blacks were allowed to attend classes; the group of black students, who became known as "The Little Rock Nine," who entered the school in 1957 under much protest; ways black students could gain acceptence at an all-white school; the increase in racial tensions in the 1970s; the hiring of the first black principal; and how Little Rock Central High School has flourished since the election of the first black student body president.
