HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: THE GAS MAN {THIRD SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas about a department of reflective homicide detectives in Baltimore, Maryland. In this episode, Victor is released from prison after serving a six-year sentence for killing a family by improperly installing a gas heating system in their house. Victor is picked up at the jail by his best friend Danny, who annoys Victor with his penchant for 1970's pop music -- which continuously emanates from his car radio. Victor tells Danny he wants revenge on the police detective who arrested him for what he believes was just an unfortunate mistake: he plans to humiliate and kill Detective Frank Pembleton, whom he blames for all that has gone wrong in his life -- his conviction, the suicide of his wife, and his estrangement from his son. An opportunity presents itself when Victor and Danny follow Pembleton to the scene of a murder in which a Gypsy fortune teller's decapitated body is found in her shop. Victor and Danny stumble upon the missing head and a bloody knife in an alley nearby, and Victor takes both back to Danny's apartment. Victor begins sending photos of the murder weapon and the head to the local paper and stalking Pembleton and his wife. Danny becomes increasingly disturbed by Victor's obsession and begs his friend not to follow through with his plan, but Victor becomes enraged when Danny suggests that, by blaming Pembleton, he is not taking responsibility for his own actions. When Pembleton arrests a man for the murder, Victor sends a videotape to a television station, creating doubts about whether Pembleton apprehended the real killer. Later, Pembleton rushes home in response to a terrified call from his wife, and the wheels are set in motion for a shocking confrontation with his stalker. Commercials deleted.
