WE'LL GET BY (TV)
Summary
A situation comedy created by Alan Alda, "We'll Get By" features the Platts, a sometimes sarcastic yet loving middle-class family consisting of husband and wife George and Liz and their three kids Muff, Andrea, and Kenny. The household is in messy mid-afternoon chaos as the program opens. When George returns from work, he and Liz discuss their upcoming wedding anniversary, and he tells her that he is dissatisfied with his work and with parts of his life in general, worried that he hasn't lived up to his expectations of himself. He wanted to be thriving at forty, he explains, but he is just getting by. After some argument, they come up with the idea of breaking loose for their anniversary and going to Florida. Soon, reality sets in; a leak in the basement will eat up any spare money for travel, and the children have no desire to be left with their grandparents while their parents go away. Finally, George decides that Florida can be put off until the next year. Later in the evening, the family plays a game of cards together, and mom and dad head up to their room for an early night as the kids snicker. Commercials deleted.
