NIGHT GALLERY: THE CATERPILLAR / LITTLE GIRL LOST (TV)
Summary
One in this supernatural anthology series hosted by Rod Serling. This episode consists of two stories: "The Caterpillar" (0:33:48) and "Little Girl Lost" (0:17:07). In "The Caterpillar," an Englishman named Macy comes to live and work at the tobacco plantation of Mr. and Mrs. Warwick in a colonial outpost in the jungles of Borneo. Lonely, homesick, and on edge from the heat and the constant rain, Macy falls hard for the beautiful Rhona Warwick, who is nearly forty years her husband's junior. Frustrated when Mrs. Warwick snubs his advances, he hires a local man to do away with her husband by planting an earwig -- an insect said to enter the ear and eat the brain -- in Warwick while he sleeps. But Macy's plan goes terribly, terribly wrong. In "Little Girl Lost," a man named Burke is assigned by the government to guard Dr. Putnam, a brilliant scientist on the verge of losing his mind. Putnam recently lost his beloved daughter Jenny in a car accident. He now suffers from the delusion that Jenny is still alive and continues to talk to her as though she were there. As per his instructions from the government, Burke feeds Putnam's delusion, in an effort to get Putnam to return to his work and finish an important classified project on which he was working when his daughter died. But soon the conflict between Putnam's conscious and subconscious -- and the nature of the project itself -- puts Burke and others in grave danger. Commercials deleted.
