MAGNUM, P.I.: HOME FROM THE SEA (TV)
Summary
One in this detective series set in Hawaii, starring Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum, a former naval officer turned private investigator. In this episode, Magnum goes on his annual Independence Day trip alone on the ocean on a surf ski -- a solitary day of remembrance. Thrown off his craft in the wake of a reckless power boater, Magnum loses the surf ski and finds himself treading water miles from shore in a dangerous current. Meanwhile, T.C. takes his little league baseball team on a field trip; Higgins plays in a polo match, attended to by the swooning Agatha Chumley; and Rick romances a blonde aboard his yacht. However, T.C., Higgins, and Rick each have independent sixth-sense intuitions that Magnum is in trouble. As day turns to night, an exhausted Magnum takes strength from recollections of his childhood, seen in flashback sequences: a young Thomas, on vacation with his mother and his father -- a Navy lieutenant soon to depart for Korea; his wedding night in Vietnam; and a darker memory of his childhood, which depicts the true significance of his annual Fourth of July trek. In the dark of night, after over twenty hours at sea, Magnum's only hope for survival is that his friends will act on their intuitions. Commercials deleted.
