LASSIE {JEFF'S COLLIE}: THE INHERITANCE {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in this series of dramas about Lassie, a smart and courageous collie. In this episode, Jeff Miller is delighted to learn that Lassie, with whom he has played since she was a pup, has been bequeathed to him by his late neighbor, Mr. Carey. When Jeff brings Lassie home, however, she immediately runs away. Jeff and Gramps trace Lassie back to her old home and find her growling at Matt, the sullen caretaker rumored to have stolen from Mr. Carey. That night, Jeff cries himself to sleep when he learns that Lassie has run away again. Lassie sneaks back into the Carey house, but Matt catches her and locks her in a room. The next morning, Jeff packs some food for Lassie and takes off for the Carey place. While feeding Lassie, Jeff finds an old wallet stuffed with cash hidden under a brick in the fireplace. Matt barges in, snatches the wallet from Jeff, and escapes across the yard. Lassie leaps through the window and chases Matt to the river, where he is finally subdued by Jeff and a kindly neighbor. The adventure proves to be a bonding experience for Jeff and Lassie, who decides to make the Miller farm her new home. Commercials deleted.
